Graphic Equaliser
The title song, which leads off the album, is a take-off the Beatles Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and serves to introduce the rest of the songs. Honey I'm Home is a jokey skit on wayward men, The Stranger an equally jokey comment on a stranger passing through town. Difficult is about taking up challenges and being a good dad. Take A Ride is more about taking risks: you buy the ticket, you take the ride, and hopefully survive it! Ideas is more philosophical and is based on the following: if I have an apple and I give it to you, then you have an apple but I have nothing. But if I have an idea and I give it to you then we both have an idea! Didn't Have To Be This Way started as a little jazzy number with a few diminished chords, and then just developed.
There are two cover songs. A rollicking old favourite Patricia The Stripper and a more challenging (to play) number by Tuck & Patti called Better Than Anything.
Thanks as usual to my best friend and partner Mel Williams for encouragement and support, especially for listening patiently to the endless initial mixes!
I wrote all the songs with the exception of those mentioned above. I also do all the playing, singing and recording.
*****
I mostly play my Taylor 514-C steel string acoustic, with occasional lead breaks on my Aria nylon string acoustic, both through a single Rode NT2A microphone. My bass is a Fender Jazz Bass played directly into my Scarlet 4i4 audio interface. The drums come out of a Alesis SR16 drum box and occasional through Cubase via my MIDI interface . Everything else (strings, flutes, sax, etc) is from a Roland JUNO-D keyboard systhesizer. The album was recorded on Cubase 12 Pro.
The album was recorded in my home studio in Somerset West between January 2023 and August 2023.
