Graphic Equaliser
This album was written and recorded during the 2021 Covid-19 lockdown, between January and August, although thankfully none of the songs directly reflect this. Hopefully, they contain both a bit of fun and some inspiration.
The song Fly Away is a plea to let go and leave the bad times behind. Mariachi is a tribute to those wonderful mariachi bands from Mexico, and is litered with diminished chords. Makin' Whoopee and Dream A Little Dream were originally intended to be duets, but both Rickie Lee Jones and Lily Allen declined my invitation to join in and sing along.
Thanks as usual to my best friend Mel for endless encouragement and support and for trying her best to fill in for Rickie Lee Jones.
I mostly play my Taylor steel string acoustic, with occasional lead breaks on my Aria nylon string acoustic. My bass is a Fender Jazz Bass played through a SansAmp DI box. The drums come out of a Boss drum box, which gave up the ghost during the recording of this album and has been replaced by an Alesis drum machine. Everything else is from a Roland JUNO-D keyboard.
I wrote all the songs and play and sing everything except for:
- For What It's Worth from Buffalo Springfied [1966].
- Makin' Whoopee after Dr John and Rickie Lee Jones [1989]
- Dream A Little Dream after Robbie Williams & Lily Allen [2013]
The CD was recorded in my home studio in Somerset West between January and August 2021.
