Graphic Equaliser
Recorded between June 2010 and July 2011, this is partly a retrospective of my life as a guitarist. I started playing guitar in 1963 by listening to and emulating The Shadows. The number titled Shadows is one whose real title escapes me but was one of the first I ever learned to play. I play it here from a nearly 50 year old memory! As for Dance On, I saw the Shadows play it live in Cape Town in 1963 - an evening I will never forget!
Liquid Amber by Laurence Juber and Who Lives Up There by Snuffy Walden are from the collection Sounds Of Wood And Steel, a tribute to Taylor Guitars. All the numbers on this album are played on my Taylor CE514 guitar, except for the Shadows which are played on a Fender Stratocaster (American, of course!).
There is also a bit of exotica thrown in: vibraphone, xylaphone, flute, piano, strings and others. I had some fun on the Roland JUNO-D keyboard getting these sounds out considering I can't actually play a keyboard, which I dare say shows.
Not to mention the drummer who lives in a little box which I hammer with two fingers, none of it programmed! I thought the Shadows numbers came out quite well.
The cover picture is me standing next to our family bungalow in Bakoven, circa 1955. A hippy ahead of his time?
