Some happy songs, and two with a message to Planet Earth (you and I) regarding the damage we are doing here: Planet Earth and Julian Lennon's Saltwater represent this thought. On a more distressing note, a song for the people of Ukraine, the war being an event which upset me greatly.

Bourree is my humble interpretation of the JS Bach classic, with inspiration from Jethro Tull's 1969 version. Finally, My Liefie is my attempt to break into the Afrikaans market (yeah, right!).

Thanks as usual to my best friend and partner Mel Williams for encouragement and support, especially for listening patiently to the endless initial mixes! Norwegian Wood, by request, is for you! Also to Mel's son, Greg, for providing the picture of the penguins.

*****

I mostly play my Taylor 514-C steel string acoustic, with occasional lead breaks on my Aria nylon string acoustic, both through a single microphone. My bass is a Fender Jazz Bass played directly into my Scarlet 4i4 audio interface. The drums come out of a Alesis SR16 drum box, and occasional through my Juno-D keyboard. Everything else (strings, flutes, sax, etc) is from a Roland JUNO-D keyboard.

I wrote all the songs with the following exceptions:

  • Saltwater by Julian Lennon, from the album Help Yourself [1991].
  • Bouree by JS Bach, after Jethro Tull from their 1969 album Stand Up [1999]
  • Norwegian Wood, Beatles, from Rubber Soul [1965].

I also do all the playing and singing.

The album was recorded in my home studio in Somerset West between January 2022 and August 2022.
