Mostly personal songs with a nod to climate change (again!). This album was written and recorded during a time when the world, and especially South Africa, was in a particularly gloomy state. Strangely enough, the gloom doesn't shine through in my songs.

As I get older I realise that looking back over one's life does not always give rise to blissful memories, and I have concluded that never looking back is probably a wise thing to do. My song Never Look Back is an appropriate metaphor. The cover photo was taken about 200m from where I had my fateful 2018 bike crash.

Wild Blue is a cover of John Mayer's delightful song off his 2021 album Sob Rock. California is a Tom Petty number off his 1994 album Wildflowers. Route 66 is a perennial oldie (composed by Bobby Troup in 1946), first recorded by Nat King Cole in 1946, and since covered by scores of bands (including the Rolling Stones).

Thanks as usual to my best friend and partner Mel Williams for encouragement and support, especially for listening patiently to the endless initial mixes!

I wrote all the songs with the exception of those mentioned above. I also do all the playing and singing.

*****

I mostly play my Taylor 514-C steel string acoustic, with occasional lead breaks on my Aria nylon string acoustic, both through a single Rode NT2A microphone. My bass is a Fender Jazz Bass played directly into my Scarlet 4i4 audio interface. The drums come out of a Alesis SR16 drum box, and occasional through my Juno-D keyboard. Everything else (strings, flutes, sax, etc) is from a Roland JUNO-D keyboard systhesizer. The album was recorded using Cubase 12 Pro.

The album was recorded in my home studio in Somerset West between August 2022 and February 2023.
