Graphic Equaliser
Mostly recorded in 2012, this was a year of upheaval in many ways: my Mom died in July and shortly thereafter I had a kidney stone removed which turned into something of a medical nightmare. I hadn't even fully recovered from that when I was obliged to move to Hermanus in September, not with much enthusiasm it has to be said.
I went through a Spanish phase with the focus on playing my Spanish guitar, which gives me a great deal of pleasure. It was also a time for instrumentals only - there are no lyrics on this album.
Rainy Day Funk is totally ad-lib with my Spanish and steel string guitars "talking" to each other. Spanero is loosely based on an old Spanish instrumental whose history elludes me, but Pooty's Gone is original and remains a favourite of mine.
There is only one cover song on the album, my rendition of the theme from The Good The Bad And The Ugly. That's me whistling along! All the other strange instruments are from my JUNO-D keyboard.
The cover picture was taken at my swimming club Xmas party in December 2011, where I entertained the crowd with a stave or two of song.
